Get Audio From Your WolfPack Matrix Switch

Audio Out

There are two easy ways to send audio from your WolfPack matrix to an amplifier, receiver, or other audio device. Pick the one that matches how you want the sound to behave.

Method 1 — Use the Audio Outputs Already on Your Cards

Your WolfPack cards already provide analog audio you can run straight to an amp — no extra hardware needed.

Input cards (3.5mm)

WolfPack input cards include a 3.5mm stereo audio output that carries the audio of whatever source is connected to that input. Run a 3.5mm cable from the card directly into your amplifier's input.

HDBaseT and LHDT outputs (Phoenix)

WolfPack HDBaseT and LHDT output cards provide Phoenix (terminal-block) balanced audio on the output card itself, with three terminals: Left, Right, and Ground. Wire those three terminals to the matching inputs on your amp.

Keep in mind: audio taken from an input card's 3.5mm output is tied to that one source. If you want the audio to follow whatever source you select, use Method 2.
Method 2 — Dedicate an Unused Output to Your Amp (Recommended)

This is the most flexible approach because the audio is fully switchable from the matrix. If you have an output you aren't using, you can turn it into a dedicated audio feed.

1. Pick an output you aren't using — for example, the last card in your system, Output 36.

2. Connect that output's analog audio to your amp: with an HDMI output card, run the 3.5mm output to your amp; with an HDBaseT or LHDT output, wire the Phoenix Left, Right, and Ground on the output card to your amp.

3. Route any source you want — 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and so on — to Output 36. Your amp will play the audio of whichever source you selected. Now you can change what's playing on your amp anytime, right from the matrix, just by routing a different source to that dedicated output.

Can I get switchable audio out of my WolfPack matrix switch?

Yes. Dedicate an unused output to your amp (Method 2), then route any source to that output. The audio follows whatever source you select, so you can change it right from the matrix.

What's the difference between the 3.5mm audio on an input card and on an output card?

The 3.5mm output on an input card is locked to that one source. The 3.5mm output on an HDMI output card carries whatever source is currently routed to that output, so it's switchable. Use the output-card version if you want to change what's playing.

How do I connect a WolfPack matrix switch to an amplifier or receiver?

Run analog audio from the matrix to your amp's input. With an HDMI output card, use the 3.5mm output. With an HDBaseT or LHDT output card, wire the Phoenix terminals (Left, Right, Ground) on the output card to your amp.

What is the Phoenix connector on the HDBaseT/LHDT output card?

It's a terminal-block connector that provides balanced analog audio, with three terminals — Left, Right, and Ground — located on the output card itself. Wire those three to the matching inputs on your amplifier.

Optional fifth, if your output card has no 3.5mm and you'd rather not wire Phoenix:

My output card doesn't have a 3.5mm jack — how do I get audio out?

Add an HDMI output card that includes a 3.5mm audio output, then use the Method 2 trick: route any source to that output and take audio from the 3.5mm jack.

TIP

No spare output or 3.5mm available? Add an HDMI output card that includes a 3.5mm audio output, then use the Method 2 routing trick to send any source's audio to your amp.
